The Chinese Loving Mom team has donated rice to three organisations supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Harare, providing food assistance to help meet the needs of children under their care.
The team donated 400 kilogrammes of rice to Shalom Children’s Home in Marlborough, another 400 kilogrammes to Runyararo Children’s Home, and one metric tonne of rice to Dzikwa Activity Centre in Dzivarasekwa.
At Shalom Children’s Home, Pastor Rephat Nyarenda said the institution currently has 36 children and thanked the Chinese Loving Mom team for its continued support.
“Currently, we have 36 children. We have seen the support that the mothers are giving us. We have come a long way, witnessing the support that they have been giving us over the years, so we are grateful. We appreciate it, and we really want to say thank you for your support,” he said.
At Runyararo Children’s Home, Chinese Loving Mom member Penny Wong reflected on her long association with the institution. She said it was the first children’s home she visited in Zimbabwe in 2011.

At Dzikwa Activity Centre, the Chinese Loving Mom team donated one metric tonne of rice. The centre supports orphans and vulnerable children living in the surrounding community.
Dzikwa Trust Organisation Centre Manager and Coordinator Pricilla Takawira said the organisation had grown over the years, but its growth had also brought increased challenges.

“The organisation is growing big, and the bigger it is growing, the more challenges we face,” Takawira said.
She said the donation came at a time when the organisation was seeking food assistance for the children.
“We are so grateful because we have received a donation of one tonne of rice. Last month, I appealed to the Chinese Embassy seeking a donation of foodstuffs to take us through the month of September, and this donation came at the right time when we expected any well-wisher to come and help,” she said.
Takawira said rice was rarely served to the children because the organisation could not afford it, with the centre mainly providing basic food such as sadza and beans.
“Our children rarely eat rice because we cannot afford it. We only give them very basic foodstuffs such as sadza and beans. With rice, it is going to be Christmas Day every day, and the kids are going to be happy,” she said.
She also thanked the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Loving Mom team for their continued support.
“We really appreciate the relationship we have with the Chinese Embassy. They know us, and every year, especially during this time of the year, they have been coming to give us a hand,” she said.
The donations are expected to support meals for children at the three institutions as they continue providing care and assistance to orphans and vulnerable children.
