The woman from Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza,Plaxedes Mashasha, who was picked by police after staying with the decomposing body of her 80-year-old husband in the family house has been taken to court.
National police spokesperson assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the woman is facing culpable homicide charges.
“The woman is appearing in court alone while the son has to go for a psychiatric evaluation first,” he said.
The bizarre incident, which has shocked neighbours as well as other Zimbabweans culminated in the arrest of the two.
Grant was found hiding in the ceiling at the family house.
Gogo Mashasha’s husband was reportedly last seen in a wheelchair more than five years ago while his son Grant was last seen about 10 years ago.
According to neighbours, Gogo Mashasha told them that Grant was in the United Kingdom where his other siblings lived.
Grant had three sisters, Marvelous, Abigail and Mercy as well as a brother, Greg.

Grant’s siblings left for the United Kingdom (UK) and he was the only one left behind.
Family members have said that no one was allowed in the house by Gogo Mashasha, including close relatives.
When Grant’s sister died in the UK, Gogo Mashasha barred people from getting into the house to offer condolences and she was buried by about six people. The same thing happened when Grant’s younger brother, Greg died.
Around that time, Grant got married but later divorced and this was the last time neighbours saw him, with his mother claiming that he was in the UK.
Close relatives were not allowed to see Sekuru Mashasha, who was always locked in the house.
According to Sekuru Mashasha’s niece, they were not allowed to visit the house and they would talk to Sekuru Mashasha over the perimeter wall when Gogo Mashasha was at church.
She also said that Grant did not live in the ceiling but she claimed he had hidden in the ceiling, away from the decomposing body.
Close relatives were reportedly in the process of engaging human rights lawyers to assist them with the case of Sekuru Mashasha whom they last saw ages ago.
Gogo Mashasha last week, which could be the time Sekuru Mashasha died, is said to have made a call to his brother.
