Career robber kept in custody over US$7k case

The matter of a Chitungwiza man, who stole property worth US$7 000, and is also an accused person in several other cases will remain in custody until November 25 when his case will be heard.

Precious Muchineripi Masamvu, 39, told magistrate Dennis Mangosi that he was not in a position to apply for bail since he had pending cases in other courts.

Masamvu is being charged with robbery as defined in Section 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

The court was informed that on 16 January, 2022, Masamvu together with already arrested Peter Pfumbidza and his other accomplices, at around 0130 hours, proceeded to the complainant's place of residence.

 Armed with iron bars and bricks the accused persons forced open the complainant’s bedroom door using an unknown object and manhandled the complainant, who was asleep in his bedroom.

The accused persons assaulted the complainant and threatened to kill him and at the same time demanded money.

Later, Masamvu and one of his accomplices, Norman Karenga, authored a fake agreement of sale, purporting to be the genuine owners of the car and sold it to Pfumbidza for US$1 900.

On 26 February, 2022, Pfumbidza changed the registration number plate of the car to AFT 8541 and sold complainant's car to Luka Pedzisai on a swap and top deal in which he was given a white Honda Fit plus cash US$1 400.

Pedzisai owned the car for five months before putting it up for sale at LeeRoy Motors car sale and it was brought by Constantine Madzimure on 1 August, 2022.

The stolen car was red-flagged by Zinara as stolen upon payment for a vehicle licence, leading to Pfumbidza’s arrest.

Pfumbidza implicated the accused person, who then implicated his accomplice, Karenga.

The total value stolen is US$7 000 and property worth US$6 000 was recovered.

Magistrate Mongosi postponed Masamvu's case to 25 November, 2022.
