Zimbabweans will now pay more for services obtained from the courts following the hiking of court fees by between 500 and 1 500 percent.
The new fees are contained in the Magistrates Court (Civil) Statutory Instrument (SI) 196 of 2022 which replaces SI 222 of 2020 with the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs saying the new fees are payable in US dollars or local currency at the prevailing bank rate.
Marriage licences now cost US$25 or ZWL$15 900 up from ZWL$1 000 — an increase of 1 490 percent while summons or applications went up by 960 percent to ZWL$3 180 up from ZWL$300. In foreign currency it costs US$5.
Charges for a notice of appeal charges have gone up by 1 172 percent from ZWL$500 to US$10 or ZWL$6 360 while a transcription of record and request for typed judgment per page now costs US$1 or ZWL$636 from ZWL$100, representing a 536 percent increase.
If a transcription of a record is over 100 pages, it will cost US$100.
