Commonwealth Mission Assistant Secretary General Professor Luis Franceschi has said the mission appreciates the seriousness of the government in going through the assessment process for re- admission into the Club.

Prof Franceschi said every country should demonstrate commitment in matters that include democracy, rule of law, good governance and transparency, adding Zimbabwe has made great effort toward its re-admission.

“Zimbabwe has approached this matter of coming to the Commonwealth family with wisdom and we don’t take it for granted. I encourage Zimbabwean citizens to do the same.

“The Common wealth is a club of countries that share a common purpose and Zimbabwe shares a common tradition with other countries in the Commonwealth in terms of language, ideas and institutions,” he said.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Honourable Frederick Shava said government has made efforts in meeting the five expectations that are critical to the re-admission into the Commonwealth.

“I am pleased to inform you that since the last Commonwealth Assessment Mission in July 201, government has made significant strides in the implementation of our agenda.

“The reform Agenda was initiated by government to, first and foremost, improve the lives and livelihoods of the Zimbabwean citizens in line with our Vision of achieving an Upper-Middle class society by 2030.

“In that regard, under our National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), for the period 2021 to 2025, government is striving to build on the successes of the Transitional Stabilisation Program to ensure macro-economic stability and growth.

“Vision 2030 prioritises the re-orientation of the country towards democratization, respect for human and property rights, freedom of expression and association the rule of law as well as addressing economic challenges,” Minister Shava said.
