Revelation College financial records keeper has been taken to court accused of unlawfully collecting fees from 114 people.
Chioniso Rinashe, 28, of Stoneridge Park, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud and money laundering.
She was remanded in custody.
The State alleges that sometime in December 2023, Rinashe acquired a receipt book similar to the one used by the college from December 2023 to May 2024.
The court heard that Rinashe received fees payment from 114 parents and students and she gave them receipts from her counterfeit receipt book.
It is alleged that she then took the money to herself and never gave it to the school bursar.
The offence was discovered on May 22, when the school authorities conducted random checks on the fees register versus the receipt book.
During the checks, the 114 receipts recorded in the fees register were not matching with the receipt serial numbers in the receipt book inventory.
It is alleged that parents and students who were given the counterfeit receipts by Rinashe were asked to bring receipts which they were given.
When asked where they got the receipts, they highlighted that they got them from Rinashe upon payment of fees.
On May 27, the matter was reported to the police, leading to her arrest.
