A Chiredzi man, Tinos Nangatira was physically assaulted by five of his relatives at Chikozho Complex in Chiredzi on April 15 for allegedly bewitching them.
The accused family members, Future Nangatira 37, Costa Nangatira 27, Munyaradzi Nangatira 28, Chamunorwa Nangatira, 46, and Nyasha Nangatira, 25, confronted the victim at the shopping centre before assaulting him with a brick and stone, leaving him severely injured.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority said the five accused appeared before the magistrates’ courts in Chiredzi, facing charges of physical abuse.
Their trial was set for April 29.
“The state alleges that on the 15th of April 2024, the accused persons confronted Tinos Nangatira at Chikozho Complex in Chiredzi, accusing him of bewitching them. They proceeded to physically attack him all over the body with clenched fists and also hit him with a brick and a stone, resulting in injuries,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, in another case, the NPAZ also recorded a murder case involving a Kadoma man who stands accused of stabbing his father and another victim over a beer dispute.
The NPAZ said that the accused, Believe Mpofu, 25, from Kadoma stabbed his father, Simba Mukono after he had attempted to refrain him from a dispute with Sadam Mauka following a disagreement regarding the purchase of beer.
“On the 18th of April 2024 at Tutsi Mine Milling Tuckshop in Battlefields, there was a disagreement between the accused person and Sadam Mauka regarding the purchase of beer.
“The accused person’s father, Simba Mukono tried to refrain the accused person but this did not go well the accused person who pulled a home-made knife and stabbed his father on the neck, resulting in his immediate death.
“He then turned to Mauka and stabbed him in the stomach and chin. The complainant later died upon admission at Kadoma General Hospital. The accused person was arrested at the crime scene,” NPAZ said.
