Robbers pounce on Mhangura house, steal US$15 160, gold

Police have confirmed an armed robbery case at a house in Mhangura, where four male suspects assaulted three victims, stole US$15 160 and gold before getting away in one of the victims’ Honda Fit vehicle.

According to the police, the incident happened in the early hours of March 8, with the four men armed with a pistol, hammer and machetes, which they used to break into the house.

Police confirmed the incident on X.

“Four unidentified male suspects who were wearing balaclavas, armed with a pistol, machetes and a hammer, broke into a house and attacked two victims who were sleeping in the main bedroom before stealing  US$13 960 cash, 25 grammes of gold, three cellphones and car keys of a Honda Fit motor vehicle registration number AFY 9195.

“The suspects went into another bedroom where they attacked another victim before stealing 15 grammes of toasted gold, US$1 200 cash and a cellphone.”

Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, police have arrested 52-year-old Edson Kanyemba for unlawful possession of dagga.

According to police, the arrest was a result of a tip-off, with the suspect being caught in possession of 19.5kg of dagga.

“Police in St Mary’s acted on received information and arrested Edson Kanyemba, 52, in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza for unlawful possession of 19.5kg dagga with an estimated value of US$2 000,” police said.
