School bursar remanded in custody over US$6,3k

A bursar with Avondale Primary School on Saturday appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing charges of theft of trust property after she allegedly convertedUS$6 300 of the learning institution’s funds into her own use.

Mejuly Ruvingo (48) appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure, who remanded her in custody to October 27.

The court heard, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira that on unknown dates between 2019 and September 2022, Ruvingo took advantage of her job as bursar to steal US$550 from the school’s blazer fund.

She is also alleged to have illegally used the school’s debit cards to perform transactions worth US$4 629 on different occasions while she also failed to account for 706 litres of fuel worth US$1 207.

Ruvingo is also alleged to have stolen the school’s laundry soap and tissue paper rolls.
