Two men from South Africa, who were part of suspected armed robbers who were allegedly planning to rob, have appeared in court.
Andrew Reabetore Masubelele, 38, and Emmanuel Makamo,22, of South Africa, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
They will appear in court on January 8.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on November 29, the two, their other two accomplices and other two who are now deceased, drove to to Paul Chimbodza's house in Mount Pleasant using a Toyota Fortuner and Surf. The accused had allegedly conspired rob Chimbodza.
When they arrived, they saw detectives and sped off. The detectives then went after them but failed to apprehend them.
On December 16, Masubelele and Makamo - together with their accomplices - allegedly wanted to rob Hu Jiaguang, a Chinese national of Birmingham Road, Kwekwe.
It is alleged that on December 17, Masubelele, Makomo and other two deceased arrived in Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge Border Post driving a Gord Ranger on South African registration numbers.
On December 19, detectives were informed that the accused persons and their accomplices were planning to rob Jiaguang.
The detectives went to Gabis Guest House in Arcadia, where the accused where accommodated.
The detectives went to the place where the accused were booked for surveillance.
When the accused saw the detectives, they bolted out of the house while one of the accomplices - Jabulani Ngobeni now -deceased was allegedly firing towards the detectives and a shootout ensued.
Ngobeni was shot, disarmed and arrested. The accused and the lie accomplices were pursued, leading to their arrest.
Godknows Machingura, who had gone for surveillance on the movements of Jiaguang in Shamva started to send WhatsApp messages to Makamo updating him of the car registration numbers of their target.
Masubelele later lured Machingura, who had gone to make surveillance on their target around Morgan High School in Arcadia.
He arrived in a hired Honda Fit and noticed the presence of detectives and sped off.
It is alleged that he was firing shots at the detectives, who also started firing, resulting in him being shot and getting arrested.
He was taken to hospital but succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the shoot-out.
