Brace yourselves, motorists! City Park, the city's parking overseer, is preparing for the new year with a double-pronged attack: stricter enforcement of parking regulations and a major service upgrade. This ambitious plan was unveiled during a recent media gathering, where City Park officials and journalists collaborated to dissect key issues and chart a course for a smoother, more organised parking experience in 2024.
Parking Violators Beware:
Free parkers, beware! City Park is clamping down on parking delinquents, cracking down on both unpaid fees and overstaying vehicles. “Our mission is twofold,” declared Francis Mandaza, City Park’s public relations chief.
“We’ll nab those who skip the parking fee and those who overstay their welcome.” He clarified, however, that enforcing parking across road markings remains the City of Harare traffic police's responsibility.
Mandaza emphasised the critical role drivers play in maintaining order, highlighting how compliance with parking guidelines ensures smooth traffic flow and a more organised cityscape. Responding to public concerns about grumpy marshals, City Park announced a novel initiative – anger management and re-orientation programmes for its personnel, aiming to transform them into the epitome of parking courtesy.
Investing in Infrastructure and Collaboration:
Earlier this year, City Park joined forces with the City of Harare to tackle the “traffic jungle” head-on. Their joint project involved marking roads and parking bays in the Central Business District, creating a more orderly parking environment and improving traffic flow. “Bay markings are key,” Mandaza explained, “they streamline traffic and promote orderly parking”.
City Park’s collaborative spirit shines through in its contributions to the ongoing refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium. Partnering with its sole shareholder, the Harare City Council, City Park has erected a secure perimeter wall, installed modern fencing, built 30 lease-ready convenience shops, and constructed a well-marked car park for hassle-free access.
A New Year, A New Era for Parking:
City Park’s multi-faceted approach reflects its commitment to transforming parking in Harare into a smooth, organized experience. By prioritising both enforcement and infrastructure development, alongside employee training and stakeholder collaboration, City Park paves the way for a new year where parking anxieties take a backseat and efficient traffic flow takes centre stage. Get ready, Harare, City Park is revving up for a smoother 2024!
