Nyamhunga Stadium in Kariba has become a sombre centre of mourning as recovered victims of the Lake Kariba ferry disaster are brought in, while the fate of dozens of other passengers remains unknown.
The arrival of the victims is bringing the scale of the disaster closer to families and the Kariba community, even as the search continues for those still missing following the ferry's capsizing.
With 44 deaths already reported, the disaster remains an unfolding recovery operation rather than a closed casualty count. The number of people still unaccounted for means families are continuing to wait for news of their relatives.
The stadium has consequently become a place of both grief and uncertainty—families receiving the remains of loved ones while others remain without confirmation of what happened to those still missing.

Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi, and Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo have arrived at Nyamhunga Stadium for a memorial service for victims of the RIDA passenger ferry disaster.
