Man in court for raping 13-year-old girl, sexually abusing sister

An 18-year-old man has been arraigned before the court for allegedly raping his 13-year-old neighbour.

Elton Mashanga, 18, of Waterfalls appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of rape.

The State alleges that in September 2023, the complainant was on her way from the tuckshop when she met Mashanga, who asked her to accompany him to his place and she called her little sister to accompany them.

Upon arrival at Mashanga’s place, he allegedly instructed the complainant’s sister to go to the kitchen.

The court heard that, he then dragged the complainant into his bedroom.

While inside, he closed the door and sat on the bed.

He asked the complainant to sit on the bed and she refused.

Mashanga later stood up and forcibly removed the complainant's panties and pressed her against the wall.

Thereafter, he allegedly raped the complainant without her consent and without using protection.

After the abuse, he instructed the complainant to go to the kitchen and called the complainant’s sister to come to his bedroom where he again sexually abused her.

After the abuse Mashanga ordered the complainants to leave.

The matter came to light on September 28, 2023 when the complainant’s mother noticed that she was having some difficulties in walking and interviewed her on what was going on.

She narrated the abuse to her mother, who later accompanied her to Waterfalls Police Station where a report was made.

Mashanga was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.

He will appear in court on November 13.
