A Rugare Primary School headmistress who appeared in court on allegations of stealing the school’s asbestos roofing sheets and timber has been remanded out of custody on free bail.
Calister Tarisai Matsitsiro, 58, was charged with theft of school property when she appeared before a Harare magistrate.
The case against Matsitiro is that in August this year, she targeted 22 x 3.6 endurite asbestos sheets and 5 X 6 meters of pine timber.
Matsitiro ordered some Grade 7 pupils to load the materials in question onto the school bus.
Deputy head Themba Mangwiro, on seeing the activity, asked what was going on and was told the material was being taken to the school head’s residence in Rugare for use in the construction of a fowl run.
The material was carried away and it was later established that Matsitiro did not have approval of the School Development Association committee to take it off the premises.
