A landlord's grandson has been arraigned before the court for raping a 14-year-old juvenile who was staying at his grandfather’s house.
Lameck Murundu, 22, residing in Mt Pleasant, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with rape.
The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that on December 2, 2022, at around 1830hours, the complainant was sent to buy candles at the shops and Murandu followed and proposed love to her but was turned down.
On December 3, 2022, the complainant was sitting in the passage at home during daytime. Her other siblings had gone to church and she was left alone with Murandu.
He took advantage that there was nobody else at the house and dragged her into his bedroom, closed the door and locked it.
Murandu closed the complainant's mouth using his t-shirt.
She fought with Murandu trying to stop him but he overpowered her.
He pushed her onto the bed, pulled up her skirt and removed her pant before raping her.
The complainant never revealed this to anyone.
On another day, Murandu threatened the complainant with a knife before raping her.
Murandu continued doing this to the complainant until May.
The matter came to light when she got home late on August 24, 2023. Her aunt asked her where she had been and she told her everything, leading to a police report being made.
Murandu was denied bail.
He will appear in court on October 3 for his routine remand.
