A Tynwald South man, who was accused of rape after his lover's mother saw his messages in her phone leading to his arrest, has appeared in court before magistrate Taurai Manuwere facing rape charges.
Tafara Oswald Mandiya, 20, of Tynwald South appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
The State through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that, on March 16, at around 1900 hours, Mandiya called the complainant on her phone so that they she could go with him in the Central Business District.
They boarded a car to the CBD. On their way to Zimre turnoff, they disembarked and started walking eastwards until they reached an unknown lodge in Epworth.
Mandiya, paid US$20 and invited the complainant inside, claiming that he wanted to collect something.
When she entered the room, Mandiya locked the door from the inside and went to the shower to take a bath.
When he returned, the State alleges that he had unprotected sex with her.
After that the two had a bath. The offence was unearthed when the complainant’s parents saw messages in the complainant’s phone.
Manuwere ordered Mandiya to pay ZWL$500 000 bail. He will appear in court on July 20 for his routine remand.
