A Mbare man has been taken to court facing attempted murder charges after hitting a vendor with a stone on the forehead.
Peter Chaita, 18, of Mbare, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of attempted murder.
The State, through Pardon Dziva, alleges that, on April, 9, 2023, at around 21:30 hours at corner Robert Mugabe Way and Rezende Street in Harare CBD, Rhoda Dongo, the complainant in the matter, who was selling some wares, saw her son, Loveson Chadambuka, surrounded by a mob and rushed to see what was taking place.
On arrival at the scene, Chaita picked up a stone and hit Dongo on the forehead.
Dongo sustained a deep cut on the forehead and Chaita was apprehended by the public before being taken to the police station.
Chaita was remanded in custody to May, 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, a man who was facing a charge of indecent assault also appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
Cephas Mugwambani, 31, appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.
The State alleges that, on April 8, with indecent intent, Mugwambani touched Glady Masimbiti’s buttocks in Westlea without her consent.
He was also charged with assault for hitting her with an unknown object on the head, causing bodily harm.
Mashavakure granted Mugwambani ZWL$30 000.
