A robber who killed a man by shooting him trice in the head has appeared in court and has been remanded to May 15 while investigations are in progress.
Magistrate Stanford Mambanje presided over the matter in which the accused, Tapiwa Mbirimi, also faces pending armed robbery and attempted murder charges.
The fresh charges he now faces include murder, robbery and rape.
Mbirimi is alleged to have gone on to rape the now deceased man’s girlfriend before stealing the couple’s cell phones and US$300.
For the State, Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that on November 19, 2022, Mbirimi and an accomplice only identified as Archford, confronted the now deceased Tendai Kandendu who was sitting with his girlfriend in his car along Lomagundi Road.
With Mbirimi armed with a pistol while his accomplice had a knife, the two attacked the couple, demanding money.
Kandendu fought back and reached for his gun, which was in the car, but Mbirimi and Archford wrestled Kandendu, took his gun and shot him three times in the head, killing him instantly.
They then took Kandendu’s girlfriend hostage and stole the couple’s phones and US$300.
Mbirimi dragged the girl to a nearby bush and raped her before telling her to seek assistance from a nearby house.
