A Hopley man who jumped into a moving lorry at Forbes Road and New Chitungwiza Road and started to steal items that were in the trailer has been arraigned before the courts.
Berlin Munyonga, 31, of Hopley, was before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro accused of theft.
The complainant in the matter is Jabulani Maziriri, 37, who is a driver at Christ Rise Transport.
The State, through Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleges that, on March, 26, 2023, at around 01:50 hours, Maziriri was driving an unregistered Hino truck from Masvingo to Harare.
He slowed down on approaching the intersection of Forbes Road and New Chitungwiza Road, Waterfalls in order for him to give way to traffic.
Munyonga, together with his accomplice only known as Skimbo - who is still at large - jumped into the trailer of the lorry and stole an air drier, one gear retarder, a pair of Volvo shocks, 5 litres of voith oil and gear cable and ran away.
Maziriri discovered that a person had who jumped off the truck when he reached Zindoga Shopping Centre and that was when he realised that some items had been stolen.
He then drove back to the intersection and saw one of the stolen boxes, which had already been emptied, near the road.
Maziriri went to Mbudzi round about to make a police report.
On March, 26, 2023, one Sergeant Zvoushe and Constable Gumbanjera who were on patrol, apprehended Munyonga.
He led the police to one Farai Masiiwa where he had sold all the things, except a gear cable.
The total value of the products that were stolen is ZWL$4 078 151 and ZWL$3 934 500 was recovered.
Muchuchuti-Guwuriro ordered Munyonga to appear in court tomorrow for bail application.
