A 41-year-old woman from Village 16 Chitava, Masvingo was found dead in her bedroom next to an empty bottle of Dichlorvos pesticide in a suspected suicide.
Kudzai Nyaku was allegedly assaulted by her husband for four continuous days resulting in her committing suicide by drinking poison.
It is alleged that the husband was demanding the US$250 the couple was saving to buy a cow.
Masvingo assistant Police Spokesperson Lorraine Ndlovu confirmed the incident.
“Nyaku’s bruised lifeless body was found in a bedroom next to an empty bottle of Dichlorvos pesticide.
“She was allegedly assaulted by her husband Eriya Mbuluwa,32, continuously from March 13-17, 2023. Mbuluwa allegedly wanted to squander the money with girlfriends,” Ndlovu said.
Ndlovu said that Mbuluwa returned home from a meeting on Monday last week and demanded the US$250 they were saving to buy a cow.
Nyaku refused, alleging that he wanted to spend it with girlfriends.
Mbuluwa assaulted Nyaku with a wooden spoon all over her body after she refused with the money.
