Drugs bust operation nets 636

The police have announced that 277 people were arrested on January 6 countrywide under the operation: “No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances”, bringing the collective arrests to 636.

This follows a drug onslaught launched against drug peddlers in major cities around the country including Harare, Masvingo and Bulawayo.

Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Development for Harare Tafadzwa Muguti said school heads are required to report criminal offences to the police including surrender of evidence.

Recently, the Dominican Convent High School expelled eight students on grounds of misconduct after they were involved in drug abuse during a trip in Nyanga.

“For the benefit of those who might not be understanding our position on drugs it’s very simple. If you buy drugs, you take drugs, you sell drugs or you transport drugs this means you are part of the value chain of the drug industry.

“It’s time to send drug dealers packing to prison. This will need all of us to stand hand in hand against them,” he said.

Last week, an unidentified man was taken by the Malbereign Police after he was captured on video sharing drugs with a girl in school uniform who is reportedly in Form Two.

Reports also confirmed the school had dealt with prior cases of drug abuse.

In a similar case, Shadreck Choruma,38, was arrested by police in Bulawayo for possessing 50 bottles of Broncleer, 8gm steroid pills, Goldessi syrup and four 200ml of Benylin syrup.

During the operation, the police urged the public to report drug peddlers in their respective areas.

The Police are conducting raids, stop and searches, blitz and awareness campaigns.
