Drunk Nephew Axes Uncle Over Food Money

A 40-year-old man from Lower Gweru who struck his 56-year-old uncle three times on the head with a small axe following a dispute over money has been convicted of physical abuse and sentenced to three months in prison.

Blessed Bhebhe, of Ntabeni Village, Lower Gweru, was convicted by the Gweru Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on August 4, 2026, at around noon, Bhebhe arrived home intoxicated and found his uncle preparing food in the kitchen hut.

Instead, he struck his uncle three times on the head with a small axe before fleeing the scene.

The complainant later filed a police report, leading to Bhebhe’s arrest. He was medically examined, and a medical report detailing his injuries was produced in court as evidence.

Bhebhe was sentenced to three months in prison, wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
