One of the Harare men arrested over the death of their father has asked the court to set free his younger brother as he is innocent.
Bruce Chitaukire, 47 of Stoneridge and Chanachu Chitaukire, 43 of Glen Norah A, were before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure at the Harare Magistrates' Court charged with murder.
"Your worship it is me who had a disagreement with our father. This one was not there, it's me who did that (assaulted)," Bruce told the court.
The court heard that Bruce and Chanachu contravened Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23 when they assaulted their father to death.
Grace Mugocheke, representing the state, told the court that on January 28, 2023, the two teamed up and assaulted the complainant with a piece of hose pipe and other unknown objects.
The deceased was found on January 29, 2023, on his bed with injuries on the head, body and a swollen hand.
Mashavakure told Bruce that the state would investigate on the matter to ascertain if Chanachu was not involved in the assault.
The magistrate also advised the pair to approach the High Court for bail application and remanded them to February 15, 2023.
