
A Waterfalls man is facing a murder charge after a 25-year-old man was allegedly tied to a power pole and beaten to death in Hopley.
The fatal assault allegedly followed accusations that the victim had stolen a bag belonging to one of the attackers.
Lovemore Mahwite, 45, of Waterfalls, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court charged with murder.
The deceased was identified as Alfred Zzinuka, 25, of 408 Hopley Zone 1, Harare. Several of Mahwite's alleged accomplices are already on remand in connection with the case.
The court heard that on May 23, 2026, Zzinuka was walking along a road in Hopley Zone 1 when he was confronted by Mahwite and several other men.

The group allegedly accused him of stealing a bag belonging to one of them.
Prosecutors allege that Mahwite and his accomplices restrained Zzinuka by tying him to a ZESA power pole with a rope.
They allegedly assaulted him repeatedly with tree branches, polythene pipes and sjamboks.
Zzinuka died at the scene from the injuries he sustained.
Mahwite is expected to return to court on July 27, 2026, for further proceedings.
