ZRP has intensified its ongoing nationwide crackdown under Operation “No to Knives in Pockets / Ingqamu Idingani Esikhwameni / Banga Rinodei Muhomwe,” aimed at reducing violent crime involving the carrying of dangerous weapons in public spaces.
According to the police, the operation targets individuals carrying knives, machetes, catapults and other weapons that have been linked to escalating incidents of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery. Authorities say such weapons are frequently found in high-risk areas including liquor outlets, nightclubs, mining communities and residential neighbourhoods, where minor disputes often turn violent.
In its latest update, police confirmed that on 18 May 2026 alone, 15 people were arrested under the operation, bringing the total number of arrests to 346 since the initiative began on 9 May 2026.
