Radio Dispute Turns Violent at Matapi Football Pitch, One Hospitalised

 

An early morning dispute over a radio turned violent at Matapi football pitch in Mbare, leaving one man hospitalised after he was allegedly stabbed and struck with a brick during a confrontation.

Timothy William (25), of Mbare, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing an attempted murder charge following the incident, which prosecutors say unfolded in the early hours of April 29, 2026.

According to the State, the complainant was at the popular community football ground at around 5:40am when William and an accomplice, who remains at large, approached him and demanded his radio.

Court papers allege that tensions escalated after the complainant refused to surrender the device, triggering a violent altercation.

The accomplice allegedly picked up a brick and struck the complainant once on the forehead, causing serious injury. During the same attack, William is accused of producing a knife and stabbing the complainant once on the right shoulder.

The injured man sustained visible wounds and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

Police investigations are continuing as authorities intensify efforts to locate the second suspect believed to have participated in the attack.
