Nkayi United have declared their strong ambition to secure promotion to the top-flight league following an impressive start to their campaign in the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League.
After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, the club has returned with renewed determination and momentum. Sporting director Liberty Nduna expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to go all the way this time around.
“This season we strengthened our squad with more than 10 experienced players across all departments, from the goalkeeper to defenders, midfielders and strikers,” Nduna said.
In a strategic move to boost quality and experience, Nkayi United recruited players with top-flight pedigree. Among them are Vincent Moyo, formerly of Highlanders, and Kelvi Madzonge, who played a key role in helping Bulawayo Chiefs secure promotion last season.

Nduna emphasised that the new additions were brought in to elevate the team’s overall performance and competitiveness. “We brought these players to utilise our squad and make it different and much stronger from the previous one,” he added.
As the club means business this season, Nkayi United also tested their squad against top-flight opposition during pre-season preparations. They faced teams such as Highlanders, Chicken Inn, and Gwanda Pirates.
“Those big clubs playing in the top flight, Highlanders and Chicken Inn, we played them during our pre-season preparations to help us analyse our squad,” Nduna said.
The early signs suggest the strategy is paying off. Nkayi United remain unbeaten after six matches, positioning themselves as serious contenders for the Southern Region title.
