
A 49-year-old man appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing attempted murder charges following an axe attack on his former partner at her Hatcliffe home earlier this month.
Blessmore Chisandure (49) of Hatcliffe is accused of attacking Yeukai Makumbirofa with an axe, striking her several times and inflicting serious injuries.
The incident allegedly occurred at around 1pm on April 4 at a residence in Jadabvu Consortium, Hatcliffe, where Chisandure reportedly confronted Makumbirofa over their separation.
According to court proceedings, Chisandure allegedly became aggressive and threatening before retrieving an axe from behind a bedroom door and attacking Makumbirofa, striking her on the head, right hip and left pelvic area.

The court heard that Makumbirofa sustained bruises while attempting to escape. She was allegedly restrained by unidentified individuals during the assault.
Prosecutors further alleged that Chisandure attempted to attack her again using a shovel before leaving the scene.
Makumbirofa later received medical treatment, although the medical affidavit is still pending before the court.
Chisandure was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on April 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
