Sabi Gold Target Strong Start

As the 2026 Central Region Soccer League season prepares to kick off next weekend, Sabi Gold Mine FC are bracing for a demanding campaign with a significantly restructured squad.

The team remains under the guidance of head coach Kumbula Msendeki affectionately known as "Coach Zola" who is working alongside assistant coach Lovemore Chisungo. With a squad largely comprised of young players formerly with the FC Platinum Under-19 side, Coach Zola admitted he is still evaluating his options ahead of the season opener.

“The squad is still new and I need time to determine the best way to work with the boys, but they are responding well,” Zola said.

The coach also highlighted that while the players are showing commitment in training, the group has yet to reach peak match fitness.

“As the squad is so fresh, we are still analysing their fitness levels. They haven’t reached the exact point I want them to be at just yet, but the progress is encouraging,” he added.

Club captain Obey Hunduza is leading the side and emphasised the importance of unity as the team builds chemistry. Speaking at Sabi Mine FC Stadium, Hunduza noted that the players are focused on collective effort rather than individual brilliance.

“Many of the players are new here, so we are focused on working together as a unit,” said Hunduza. “To those who view Sabi Mine FC as an easy opponent: we are here to prove them wrong.”
