AFCON 2025 Final Overturned as Morocco Crowned Champions After Senegal Walk-Off

The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final result has been overturned, with Morocco declared champions after a disciplinary ruling against Senegal.

According to a statement released by the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board, Senegal forfeited the final after abandoning the match during a crucial moment.The official statement confirmed the decision, saying, “The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3-0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).”

The final, played in Morocco, had been closely contested before controversy erupted in the second half when the referee awarded a penalty against Senegal. The decision was strongly disputed by Senegal’s players, who argued that it was unfair.

Tensions quickly escalated, and in a stunning development, the Senegal team walked off the pitch in protest. Match officials attempted to restore order, but the players later   returned to the game after some time.

Following a review of the incident, CAF ruled that Senegal’s actions violated tournament regulations, resulting in an automatic forfeiture. The decision handed Morocco the title with a 3–0 result, officially crowning them champions of Africa.
