Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o has been suspended for four matches by the Confederation of African Football following his conduct during Cameroon’s 2–0 loss to hosts Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement released on Thursday, CAF said the sanction relates to alleged misconduct during the quarter-final encounter, where Eto’o was observed reacting angrily to refereeing decisions in full view of CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
The incident occurred amid tense scenes after the final whistle, with players from both teams involved in confrontations that prompted CAF to launch broader investigations into violent conduct at recent AFCON matches.

In addition to the suspension, CAF’s disciplinary committee imposed a US$20,000 fine on the former Cameroon international. FECAFOOT has since criticised the ruling, arguing that the decision was issued without clear justification.
The federation questioned the speed of the disciplinary process, saying it raised concerns about due process and fairness, and confirmed it would lodge an appeal.
“FECAFOOT reiterates its support for its president and remains committed to the principles of credible and transparent disciplinary justice,” the federation said.
Despite the controversy, the tournament continues, with Morocco set to face Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
