Zvishavane Man Jailed for Attempted Murder in Nightclub Assault

 

 

A 26-year-old Zvishavane man, Mthulisi Mangena, has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted murder following a violent mob-style attack at a local nightclub.

The incident, which occurred on December 14, 2025, left a shop assistant with severe and permanent injuries.

The victim, who was sitting next to a woman accused of stealing a watch, was dragged into the assault when he followed the woman outside.

Mangena and the group turned on him, shouting "Ndiye umwe wacho" ("He is the other one"), and subjected him to a brutal beating.

The victim was struck on the head with a beer bottle, kicked, and beaten with a metal tool and stones. The attackers also robbed him of US$354 and his house keys.

Mangena attempted to use an okapi knife during the assault but was stopped by another member of the mob.

The victim was then forced into a black Toyota Aqua, driven away, and dumped unconscious along Escrow Way.

The attack resulted in severe injuries, including several cuts to the head, loss of three teeth, a broken fourth tooth, and multiple bruises across his face and arms.

The Zvishavane Magistrates' Court handed down the six-year prison sentence to him.
