
A 56-year-old shop owner from Chiendambuya has been convicted and sentenced for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs following a police raid at her business premises.
Evelyn Mafetuka, who operates Kumbukani Shop at Muswe Business Centre, was sentenced by the Rusape Magistrates’ Court to 24 months’ imprisonment after being found in possession of nearly one kilogram of dagga.
The conviction arose from an incident on January 10, 2026, when police detectives, acting on a tip-off, conducted a search at her shop and adjoining residence.
During the operation, officers recovered five packets of loose dagga weighing a total of 0.9130 kilograms.

One packet was found concealed in a dish hanging on the wall of a bedroom, while the remaining packets were hidden in a box beneath the shop counter.
Mafetuka was arrested at the scene and charged with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
She was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 12 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that she completes 420 hours of community service.
