Zimbabwean-born finance professional Fungai Chatema, CFA, MBA, has landed a senior executive position at one of the world’s most powerful investment banks, Morgan Stanley, after being promoted to Vice President, Investment Risk Management.

The appointment places Chatema among a small, elite group of global finance leaders entrusted with managing risk across multi-billion-dollar investment portfolios in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s growing reputation as a source of world-class professional talent.

His career began in Harare with an internship at Atlas Mara's BancABC before moving into asset management at African Century Limited, where he spent eight years rising to senior credit analyst and portfolio manager.

There, he built deep expertise in portfolio construction, credit risk, fund management, and investment governance, working at the heart of Zimbabwe’s capital markets during a period of economic volatility.

In 2021, Chatema transitioned into corporate and investment banking at Steward Bank before relocating to Ireland, where he joined global fund services firm FundRock as Senior Associate in Investment Risk Oversight.

His work spanned global exposure monitoring, liquidity risk management, regulatory compliance, and fund risk profiling for international portfolios.

In 2024, he joined Morgan Stanley’s EMEA division as Senior Associate in Investment Risk Management and within two years was promoted to Vice President, placing him inside the decision-making core of one of the world’s most powerful investment banks.
