One passenger was killed and ten others sustained injuries after a Zhongtong bus overturned along the Harare–Bulawayo Road on Wednesday night, police have confirmed.
The accident occurred at the 21-kilometre peg as the bus, which was carrying 12 passengers and travelling towards Harare, attempted to overtake another vehicle. During the manoeuvre, the driver lost control, causing the bus to veer off the road before overturning and landing on its side.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said the crash happened at around 9:30pm on December 24. “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 21-kilometre peg along Harare–Bulawayo Road on 24/12/25 at around 2130 hours,” the police said.
According to authorities, the impact proved fatal for one passenger, who died at the scene, while ten others were injured in the crash. The injured passengers were taken to hospital for medical treatment, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The police have once again urged motorists to exercise caution on the country’s highways, particularly when overtaking, as reckless driving continues to claim lives during the festive season.
