“This is Our Year!”: Sekuru Banda Says Warriors Will Finally Reach AFCON Knockouts

Popular philanthropist and traditional figure Sekuru Banda has called on all Zimbabweans to put their full weight behind the Warriors as they head to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Even though Zimbabwe has never made it past the first round of the tournament in five attempts, Sekuru Banda says he feels a change in the air. He believes the team is finally ready to make history.

Speaking to fans and the media, Sekuru Banda acknowledged that many people are nervous because of the team’s past results. However, he urged the nation to have faith.

“I know as a country we have never qualified for the knockout stage,” Sekuru Banda said. “But I have this belief that this time around, we will do it. We have the talent and the spirit. It is time for us to stop being afraid of the big teams and start believing in our own strength.”

He added that the players need to feel the love and prayers of everyone back home to help them succeed on the big stage.

In the streets of Harare supporters are already wearing their gold and green jerseys. Many fans say that the team’s recent form shows they can beat anyone.

To make sure the players can focus only on football, the government has provided financial support to cover their costs in Morocco, showing that the whole country is invested in their success.

The Warriors have a tough job ahead. They are in a group with Egypt, South Africa, and Angola. Their first game is against Egypt on December 22.
