Econet Reports Surge in Network Usage as Data Traffic Doubles

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe recorded strong growth in network usage for the half year ended 31 August 2025, with data traffic doubling and voice traffic rising by 34% compared to the same period last year, according to the company’s unaudited interim financial statements.

The surge in usage was driven by the company’s ongoing network modernisation programme, which includes investments in new sites and widespread upgrades aimed at improving service quality and expanding coverage.

The report shows that Econet allocated 12% of its revenue to capital expenditure during the period to strengthen network infrastructure.

The company said the enhanced network capacity has supported rising customer demand across its major service lines. Data usage remained the fastest-growing segment, while the expansion of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G sites further boosted overall traffic volumes.

Econet also reported that its mobile financial services unit, EcoCash, recorded a 35% increase in transaction volumes, while its InsurTech portfolio posted strong growth across Ecolife, Moovah and Maisha products.

The group’s consolidated revenue grew 38% in inflation-adjusted terms, supported by higher usage volumes and continued investment in digital platforms.
