Mazowe Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Assault at Farm Compound

A 28-year-old man from Mazowe has appeared in court facing murder charges following the fatal assault of a man at Kabanga Compound, Lowdale Farm.

Timothy Diamond was arraigned before Harare Provincial Magistrate Ruth Moyo, where he was formally charged with murder. He was remanded in custody to December 13 and advised to apply for bail through the High Court.

According to the State, represented by prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe, the incident occurred on November 28, 2025, when the now-deceased, Oliver Rusike, visited the home of Munyaradzi Mafunga at the compound.

When Rusike arrived, he reportedly encountered Mafunga’s wife, who was sleeping in the bedroom, and asked for drinking water. After being told there was none, he allegedly entered the kitchen, where Mafunga was sleeping, prompting a confrontation.

Mafunga, who has since been arrested and is facing separate charges, allegedly attacked Rusike with a stick, striking him several times on the back until the weapon broke into four pieces.

The court heard that Diamond later arrived at the scene and joined in the assault, beating Rusike several times on the back with a fan belt. The weapon has not yet been recovered.

The situation escalated further when a third man, Shereni Simbarashe — who is still at large — allegedly struck Rusike on the head with the handle of an axe, leaving him severely injured and semi-conscious.

At dawn the following day, a witness, Loveness Majeruka, noticed Rusike lying unresponsive and raised the alarm. Her husband instructed Diamond to check on him, and Diamond is alleged to have confirmed that Rusike had died from his injuries.

Investigations are ongoing, and police are still pursuing Simbarashe.
