The construction of Abifolye School, a new high-standard institution in Shurugwi North, is nearing completion—marking a major step forward in the constituency’s efforts to expand access to quality education.
The school, owned by Zanu PF Shurugwi North MP Joseph Mpasi, has been developed from a renovated former Zimasco property and is expected to compete with prestigious institutions such as Falcon College.
Preparations for the school’s first Form One intake are underway, with major facilities already in place. Practical learning departments have been equipped with modern machinery, including woodwork and craft equipment, to strengthen hands-on learning.
Mpasi said meals will be provided on campus, and a school bus has already been secured to transport students from central points around Shurugwi.

“I’m not thinking of how much the student will pay; I’m focusing on delivering high-standard education,” Mpasi said, emphasising his commitment to quality over profit.
The institution is now awaiting final approval from the Shurugwi Town Council. According to officials, the mayor has assured that the review process will be completed within a week.
“It only takes one week for the final sign-off. This is simply the procedure—we consult the committee first. So in one week, it will be done,” said Shurugwi mayor Fanuel Machiya.
Located less than three kilometres from Shurugwi town, Abifolye School is set to become one of the most accessible modern learning centres in the area. Mpasi also revealed plans to establish a teachers’ college by 2026.
The inaugural intake will prioritise Shurugwi residents, aiming to empower the local community through education and professional training.
“Abifolye will have a teachers’ college by 2026, which will empower Shurugwi residents and show that the area is not only for mining. The process is already underway,” he said.
