Gweru City Council Gives 14 Days to Remove Livestock from Urban Areas

The Gweru City Council has issued a 14-day ultimatum for residents to remove all cattle and donkeys kept within the municipality as part of efforts to improve urban management and enhance public safety.

The directive was confirmed by Information Secretary Nick Mangwana, who said the council aims to restore order in residential and central business areas where stray livestock has increasingly become a concern.

“The Gweru City Council has issued a 14-day ultimatum for residents to remove all cattle and donkeys from within the municipal boundaries. This directive is part of new measures to manage the urban environment and ensure public safety,” Mangwana said.

In addition, the council has banned the use of all animal-drawn carts in the city. Authorities warned that anyone found in violation of the new regulations will face penalties in accordance with municipal by-laws.

City officials say the measures follow rising complaints from residents about livestock wandering onto roads, causing traffic hazards and damaging public infrastructure.
