Zim Sends ARV Consignment to Botswana to Support Drug Supply

 

Zimbabwe has dispatched a consignment of antiretroviral drugs to Botswana in a gesture that underscores growing regional cooperation in public health.

According to officials, 80 percent of the consignment is being supplied as a loan, while the remaining 20 percent constitutes a donation. 

The handover was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Mr. Spencer Mqabuko Dube, Director for Africa, Asia and the Pacific in Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Botswana’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mrs. Sarah S. Molosiwa; and National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) Managing Director, Mr. Newman Madzikwa.

The officials oversaw the loading and dispatch of the consignment, marking another step in Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen regional health solidarity and resilience.

NatPharm Managing Director Mr. Madzikwa said the consignment reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to supporting regional health systems.

“This gesture demonstrates our shared responsibility in ensuring that no country in the region faces medicine shortages,” he said. “As NatPharm, we are proud to facilitate the logistics and timely delivery of these essential supplies.”

Government officials added that the initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s diplomatic and humanitarian policy, which emphasises mutual assistance and regional cooperation.

The support also reinforces long-standing bilateral ties between Harare and Gaborone in areas including health, trade, and humanitarian collaboration.
