A 20-year-old woman from Kwekwe has been convicted for concealing the birth of her child.
The court heard that on October 3, 2025, Polite Mazonde gave birth in a bush near Jolo Mine in Kwekwe and abandoned the newborn, leading to the infant’s death.

The case came to light after a local resident discovered the child’s remains and alerted others in the compound, prompting a police report and subsequent investigations.
Mazonde was arrested and charged with concealing the birth of a child.
Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court sentenced her to six months in prison, with two months suspended on the usual conditions.
The remaining four months were suspended on the condition that she completes 410 hours of community service.
