Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Announces New Board Appointments

 

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited has announced the appointment of two new directors to its board, effective from October 1, 2025. The company confirmed that seasoned executive Tracy Mpofu has joined the board as a Non-Executive Director, while Sarah Masiyiwa has been appointed as an Alternate Director to Mpofu.

Mpofu, a veteran leader with more than four decades of experience, has had an extensive career in the telecommunications and FMCG industries. A Chartered Accountant with an MBA from the University of Zimbabwe, she previously held several senior leadership roles within the Econet Wireless Group, including Group Chief Finance Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. The company highlighted her strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of the business as key strengths that she brings to the board.

Sarah Masiyiwa, daughter of Econet founder Strive Masiyiwa, brings a wealth of experience in investment strategy and business development. A graduate of New York University with a degree in Economics and Journalism, she currently manages a diverse portfolio of private and public investments, with oversight of legal and financial frameworks. Her professional background also includes work in film development and production with major international media companies.

The appointments come as part of ongoing leadership transitions at Econet. In 2022, Strive Masiyiwa stepped down from the board and was succeeded by his daughter, Elizabeth Tanya Masiyiwa. With Sarah now joining the board as an alternate director, the Masiyiwa family continues to maintain an active role in the company’s strategic direction.

Announcing the appointments, Econet chairman Dr. J. Myers congratulated Mpofu and Masiyiwa, expressing confidence in their contributions to the growth and sustainability of the business.
