
The National Employment Councils are positioning themselves as key players in shaping the future of labour in Zimbabwe, with a renewed commitment to promoting decent work and sustainable social protection.
Speaking at a recent NEC Symposium, the Chairperson of the National Employment Councils Coordinating Committee, Nomore Nhema, outlined a vision that aligns with the government’s economic agenda.
Nhema emphasised the vital role of NECs, stating that they are “key actors in promoting decent work and sustainable social protection for all.”
This declaration reinforces their mandate beyond traditional collective bargaining, extending it to a broader responsibility for employee welfare and economic stability.

He also reaffirmed the councils’ support for the government’s development goals, assuring attendees that “NECs will continue to support Government’s transformative agenda in the world of work.”

Nhema assured stakeholders that the councils are dedicated to “embracing technology, adapting to new forms of work, anticipating labour market shifts, and playing a critical role in shaping policies that will define the future of work in the country.”
