Mhandire Hungry for More as Grain Tigers Eye Munhumutapa Cup Progress

Fresh from a ruthless four-goal demolition of Vhembe Stars Academy, Grain Tigers head into Sunday’s Munhumutapa Cup clash against Gwanda Pirates with confidence high and momentum firmly on their side.

The Tigers, guided by coach Kudzai Mhandire, delivered one of their most commanding performances of the season last weekend, and the tactician now wants his players to maintain the same attacking intensity as they shift focus to cup action at Pelandaba Stadium.

With the Munhumutapa Cup presenting another opportunity for silverware, Mhandire stressed that his team is travelling with clear intentions.

“We simply need to carry on from where we left on the weekend where we scored an avalanche of goals. The problem with football is you can only prepare and can’t predict,” said Mhandire.

The coach acknowledged that knockout football brings a different level of pressure compared to league fixtures but believes his squad is mentally ready for the test.

“Cup games are different from league matches in terms of approach,” he added.

After rediscovering their scoring touch, Grain Tigers are determined to avoid an early exit and instead use the competition to build momentum for the remainder of the season. Mhandire believes progression in the tournament could play a crucial role in strengthening the team’s confidence.

“Progressing to the next round is of paramount importance because it brings the much-needed morale and would be a confidence booster for coming matches,” he said.

The Tigers are expected to travel on Saturday, spending the night in Bulawayo before making the short trip to Gwanda on Sunday morning.

Sunday’s encounter will mark the first meeting between Grain Tigers and Gwanda Pirates in the 2026 campaign, setting the stage for what promises to be a competitive cup showdown.
