The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified its campaign against illegal firearms and the misuse of dangerous weapons, with 748 arrests recorded in just two days under Operation No to Illegal Firearms, Misuse of Toy Guns and Dangerous Weapons.
In a statement released, police confirmed that the nationwide blitz, which began on September 1, 2025, has so far netted suspects for offences including possession of unlicensed firearms, failure to renew firearm certificates, misuse of toy guns, and unlawful possession of other dangerous weapons.
Police warned that any breach of the Firearms Act [Chapter 10:09] is a chargeable offence.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that any deviation from the regulations regarding firearms possession and certification is a chargeable offence,” the statement read.
The law enforcement agency has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to firearms. Reports can be made via the National Complaints Desk at 0242 703631, through WhatsApp on 0712 800 197, or at any nearest police station.
ZRP’s campaign comes amid growing concerns over rising cases of armed crime in urban and rural communities, with authorities stressing that both real and imitation weapons pose significant threats to public safety.
