Pastor Severino Mbwende of New Creation Life Church in Zvishavane has been remanded in custody following allegations of sodomizing an 18-year-old congregant.
He appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Mildred Matuvi facing charges of aggravated indecent assault.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on August 11, 2025, when Mbwende visited the complainant’s family in Redcliff. That night, the complainant awoke to find the pastor caressing him.
When he protested, Mbwende allegedly remarked that the youth was “too handsome” and that his lack of facial hair made him feel as though he were in bed with a woman.
The pastor allegedly forced himself on the complainant, removed his shorts, and threatened to shoot him if he screamed or disclosed the matter. He then compelled the complainant to lie on his stomach and sexually assaulted him three times.
After the third assault, Mbwende allegedly instructed the complainant to perform a sexual act on him, which the victim complied with out of fear.
Mbwende reportedly left the house while the complainant’s family was still asleep. Later that day, the complainant confided in his aunt, leading to the pastor’s arrest.
The case has been postponed to September 4, 2025, for trial.
