49-year-old Maphosa Barnabas, who was employed as a bus driver by Timboon Coaches, has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of reckless driving in violation of the Road Traffic Act.

The incident occurred on the 26th of August 2025 at approximately 1100 hours when Barnabas was reported to have driven a public service vehicle recklessly in Harare’s Central Business District. He allegedly drove against oncoming traffic at an undesignated point while attempting to pick up passengers.

Police officers, using sirens and beacons, pursued the accused, who then drove onto the pavement before reaching his garage in Msasa, where he was arrested.

Timboon soon after issued a statement saying that Maphosa had been dismissed and the company was cooperating with the police, as they do not condone bad behavior.
