Police have refuted social media reports suggesting that a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of businessman Mr. Joseph Mutangadura, who was gunned down at his Ruwa home on Sunday night in what is believed to have been an armed robbery.

Mutangadura, 67, was rushed to hospital after the attack but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In the aftermath, unverified posts flooded social media, with one widely circulated claim alleging that police had captured a suspect in Gazebo after a gunfight, and that the individual had disclosed the whereabouts of accomplices in Epworth.

However, National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi dismissed the claims, stressing that the suspects remain at large.

“People should disregard what is being circulated on social media. The police will officially pronounce any developments regarding the Mutangadura incident. Those who are putting information on social media which is not verified should be careful, lest they interfere with investigations and in the process derail what the police is doing,” he said.

He confirmed that investigations into the murder are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Mutangadura family has announced burial arrangements. His body will be collected from the funeral parlour on Friday before a church service at his Ruwa home, where it will lie in state. He will be laid to rest at Goromonzi Turnoff Cemetery on Saturday.
