Government Warns Private Schools Against Withholding Exam Results

The Government has reiterated that it is unlawful for schools, including private institutions, to withhold Zimbabwe School Examinations Council results from candidates over unpaid fees.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo delivered the warning in Senate on Thursday during a Question and Answer session, stressing that students’ right to access their results is guaranteed regardless of outstanding balances.

“The matter is non-negotiable,” Moyo said, cautioning that schools that defy the directive will face “serious consequences.”

The Minister noted that some private schools had attempted the practice in the past but were defeated in court, setting a binding legal precedent.

While urging parents and guardians to honour their financial obligations, Moyo emphasised that learners’ academic futures must not be jeopardised over arrears.
